Minecraft: Automatic Farms That Every Good Home Needs
Every perfectly situated home in Minecraft should utilize automatic farms, and these constructs are the best of the lot.
One of the many things you must secure in Minecraft is a sustainable food source, but creating a visually pleasing farm is more difficult than you may think. While everyone may not be a master builder, you can still follow these tutorials to create aesthetically pleasing farms, each offering a variety of difficulty levels when it comes to construction. If you are curious about which Minecraft farm will complement your world the best, then check out the list below.
Updated on July 3, 2024 by John Wildermuth: As one of the biggest games in the world, Minecraft creators are constantly inventing new ways to build basic structures in the game. Farming is one of the core gameplay mechanics in the game, and there are many different ways to design farm layouts in your world. We have updated this list to include the newest aesthetic farm layouts and their tutorials.
18 Classic Cobble Farm
- Tutorial by TheMythicalSausage
Whenever you first start your Minecraft journey, you may be tempted to create a simplistic square of crops, with little to no decoration. This is where the Classic Cobble Farm comes in, since you can improve even the most rudimentary of farms with just a few natural resources.
After mining for a small amount of cobblestone, simply surround a circular field with different slabs, full block, and stairs. You can even equip this field with torches or lanterns to ward off threatening monsters.
Furthermore, this pattern is easily repeatable, meaning you can create vast patches of farmland, each with its own designated area.
17 Natural Farm
- Tutorial by TheMythicalSausage
Another rendition of a fantastic starter farm leans more into a natural aesthetic, surrounding your crops with wooden fences and various flowers and leaves. Similar to the cobblestone farm, simply surround your crop of choice circularly with different natural materials and lanterns to ward off monsters.
Remember to always leave space for water sources, as your soil will dry up without the appropriate amount of hydration.
16 Cottage Core Farm
- Tutorial by Kelpie The Fox
If you would rather circle your crops with fences, then this cottage core aesthetic may be the perfect choice for you. Instead of simply surrounding a square of plants with fences, we recommend creating unique shapes and decorating the edges of each of your plots.

While Minecraft may contain a world entirely made out of blocks, to create aesthetically appealing structures you'll want to avoid building in a geometric grid, so generating asymmetrical plots of land will really make your builds look beautiful. Finally, adding lanterns or a custom tree can further differentiate your plots of farmland.
15 Cherry Blossom Crop Field
- Tutorial by: Polar Cat
This farm combines three different squares of crops, with a living area underneath each field. The fields are lifted above ground with stone, creating ample room to carve out a living space underneath that includes natural light.
If you ever need more interior space beneath the farm, you could always add extra tiered fields, thus increasing your living area and crop yields.
14 Cottage Leather Farm
- Tutorial by Nuvola MC
If you have been playing Minecraft for some time, then chances are you have seen compact cow farms that efficiently kill the animals to harvest their beef and leather. These 1x1 spaces use water, or simply compact space, to dispatch the cows without you having to lift a finger.
However, these contraptions can be incredibly ugly, so creating a structure around this harvesting station can really improve the overall feel of your base. In this tutorial, you can actually surround your cow farm with a small cottage, equipped with a wooden roof and a brick fireplace, all without interrupting the efficiency of the farm's output.
13 Tiered Farm
- Tutorial by: Gorillo
This farm combines three different squares of crops, with a living area underneath each field. The fields are lifted above ground with stone, creating ample room to carve out a living space underneath that includes natural light.
If you ever need more interior space beneath the farm, you could always add extra tiered fields, thus increasing your living area and crop yields.
12 Compact Farm
- Tutorial by disruptive builds
Everyone plays Minecraft differently, and many players choose to only build efficient structures that offer them the maximum amount of resources that they need to defeat the Ender Dragon. If you are one of these players, then the Compact Farm may be the perfect thing to add to your world.

This multi-tiered structure contains plots of different crops, allowing you to vertically build as high as you want, all while containing every crop in the game in a single building. Best of all, this structure is still pleasing to the eye, combining aesthetics and efficiency into one simple tutorial.
11 Automatic Aesthetic Farm
- Tutorial by Zaypixel
Similar to the Compact Farm, this simplistic field of crops combines a pretty appearance with machine efficiency, allowing you to instantly collect all of your crops with a simple push of a button. This farm is made up of a plot of plants, with a small well in the center that can be activated to flood the field with water for a short time period.
The water will cause all of your mature plants to be instantly farmed, so you can run through the field and collect your rewards without having to break any of the crops. However, this build may be slightly more difficult than others, since you will need to use redstone to make the well release water for the correct intervals.
10 Simple Farm Design
- Tutorial by SimpleMC
If you are looking for a farm with some vertical appeal, then we suggest getting some shears and building the Simple Farm Design. While the bottom of this farm may seem incredibly simple, as it is made out of simple rows of crops surrounded by paths and fences, the main appeal of this farm is the arches of lanterns, fences, and leaves that create a curved design.
Furthermore, installing some shaders will make this build truly stand out, as the leaves will sway in the wind and the lanterns will give off a subtle light across all of your crops.
9 Cottage Core Greenhouse
- Tutorial by sillyblocks
If you are looking to pollinate your fields with bees, then building a greenhouse is a great way of protecting these fragile creatures, while also creating a singular structure to house all of your crops. In Minecraft, bees can fly over crops such as wheat or carrots to pollinate them, making the crop grow significantly faster than it normally would.
However, you'll want to build a centralized location to house your bees, as you don't want these insects to fly away from your fields and halter your crop production. By simply using wood, leaves, and stained glass, you can create a flawless structure that projects beauty from any angle.
8 Pink Petal Pagoda
- Tutorial by Nuvola MC
The addition of cherry blossom trees has completely transformed the visuals of Minecraft, finally adding the much-requested pink leaves into the vanilla version of the game. On top of the cherry wood, this biome also spawns a new decorative block named pink petals.
These decorative flowers can be found on the grass blocks under cherry blossoms and can be combined to stack up to four flowers on a single block. By utilizing the new cherry wood and leaves, you can create a pagoda that decorates your world, while also serving as a farm for this decorative block.
7 Automatic Wool Farm
- Tutorial by: Nuvola MC
By clicking on a sheep with any color of wool, you can dye the sheep and forever change the color of the wool blocks they produce. This mechanic can be automated and turned into a wool farm, where a redstone system automatically shears sheep for you.

Then, you can return to this structure to collect whichever color you may need to decorate your interiors. The structure itself resembles a large barn made out of wood and cobblestone, and most importantly, stained-glass that designates the color of each sheep.
6 Slime Aqueduct
- Tutorial by Nuvola MC
Any redstone connoisseur will know that you need slime blocks to create complex technological marvels, making a slime farm incredibly valuable. However, these farms can be pretty difficult to construct, as you need to find a biome where slimes spawn before you can begin construction.
A great way to blend your farm into the lush jungle environment slimes live in is by creating an overgrown aqueduct, which will funnel slimes from deep underground via a water elevator. Since slimes take damage in water, the mobs will die before they reach the surface, meaning you can simply collect the remaining slime balls as they flow through the aqueduct.
5 Automatic Sugar Cane Farm
- Tutorial by Nuvola MC
While constructing this automatic sugar cane farm may not be for the faint of heart, completing the two buildings, and the redstone underneath, means you can continuously mine sugar cane with a simple press of a button. Specifically, this build is made up of two medieval-styled homes, and a field of sugar cane set in between the two structures.
The true star of this build is a redstone contraption complete with a sweeper and slime blocks, that will travel between the two houses when powered with redstone. As it travels, the sugar cane will get instantly farmed, and neatly placed within a chest.
4 Sunken Crop Farm House
- Tutorial by WolfAtari
While many of these build focus on creating picturesque fields or greenhouses, WolfAtari's sunken farmhouse creates an ingenious design that can decorate any world. Specifically, this build requires you to construct a wooden farmhouse in the center of the build, sunken deep into the field.
Then, all you need to do is simply create a tiered farm system that matches your pathways, easily differentiating your crops from one another. The best thing about this sunken farmhouse is the unique pattern that the fields of crops make, as they rise up to the flat level of the biome.
3 Windmill Villager Farm
- Tutorial by Nuvola MC
Ever since villagers got professions, there has been a new system of farming that is incredibly efficient. Specifically, trapping a farmer villager at the center of your crop fields will cause them to constantly mine and replant your plants whenever they are fully mature.

However, creating these villager cages can look both garish and pretty twisted, so encasing these farms within a structure is a great way of improving the aesthetics of your world. Luckily, Nuvola MC has created a large windmill that can be placed in the center of your other farms, all while carefully concealing the villagers you have trapped inside, farming crops for you to use.
2 Large Greenhouse
- Tutorial by Zaypixel
While the cottage core greenhouse may fulfill a small farmer's needs, you may find yourself upgrading to an even larger creation to hold more plants. Luckily, both of these tutorials generally use the same materials, so you only need to collect extra wood and stained glass if you want to build this larger greenhouse, or extend an already pre-existing structure.
Furthermore, as you progress through the game you may find yourself collecting rarer plants, such as nether wart, so having extra space to create new plots will become extremely valuable.
1 Automatic Mob Tower
- Tutorial by Nuvola MC
Out of all the farms you can construct in Minecraft, a mob farm will seriously net you the most rewards. These farms take up a massive amount of space and generally work by creating a dark, enclosed structure filled with water.
As mobs spawn inside the dark areas, they will be pushed by the flowing water towards a large hole, causing them to take fatal damage, or leave them on just one heart when they hit the ground.
Sadly, these mob farms are typically incredibly garish as they take up a massive amount of vertical space. Luckily, you can conceal this farm by constructing a medieval tour in the ocean, without affecting the amount of resources you earn from the farm.
Overall, while this construction project may take up a massive amount of your time, the rewards from a completed mob farm are exponential, and will greatly improve your gaming experience.
